AI and SEO Optimisation
Built to run.
Built to be found.
AI is rapidly changing the road rules for websites.
Just as GPS replaced the paper map, powerful AI search is now replacing the “old engine” under your website’s hood.
Here we answer your most-asked questions about how AI and SEO are changing the medical landscape.
How is AI optimisation different from SEO?
While traditional SEO gets your practice found on Google, AI optimisation means your practice content will be surfaced by AI systems such ChatGpt, Claude, Perplexity and voice assistants.
Both rely on headline-savvy structure and authoritative content that directly answers the questions people are searching the most. These systems overlap more than they compete.
The best content ranks well on Google and then gets cited in an AI answer; by using the same core content.
Why does this matter for medical practices?
If you are not investing in AI and SEO optimisation – some of your competitors already are.
Patients frequently ask specific health questions to “Dr Google” before they call a clinic.
If your content isn’t structured and authoritative enough to be cited as a source, these tools will answer using a competitor’s content instead, or a generic source with no connection to your brand at all.

Both rely on headline-savvy structure and authoritative content that directly answers the questions people are searching the most.
While AI optimises for clarity, factual accuracy, structure and authority signals, SEO optimises your website organically for keywords, fresh content, backlinks, page speed, heading structure and click through rate.
Ideally, you don’t choose one over the other. The best content ranks well on Google and gets cited in an AI answer, by using the same core content.

How does medical copywriting improve visibility with AI?
AI models started embedding an “AI watermark” into generative text in late 2026 and watermark detection tools will grow exponentially in 2027 and 2028.
These watermarks are completely invisible to the human eye.
So even if text is not disclosed as AI, if AI copy is cut and pasted into a post for medical marketing, or even lightly edited, it will still be be detectable.
The watermark survives copy and paste as well as light editing.
Fixing a typo or rewording a sentence will not remove it.
- The only solution then is to rewrite the majority of the copy, so it is recognised as human text.
- Why does this matter? Firstly, AI systems that are generic and predictable have low information value to AI systems that are looking for information beyond what they already “know”.
- Secondly, as watermark detection tools roll out in the next few years, platforms may increasingly deprioritise content flagged as unedited AI content.
- Thirdly, having a legitimate clinical voice creates trust and builds a strong reputation with patients and peers alike.
AI tools
How do AI tools decide which sources to cite?
Google and AI favour content that is high in E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust).
Content that adds real expertise, specific clinical detail, original data and a genuine patient perspective earns citations from other websites or AI systems.
By contrast, content that is raw, unedited AI-generated text doesn’t add anything search engine crawlers haven’t seen elsewhere, so there’s little use to cite it.
It’s also worth noting that content that has been through expert copywriter, medical and often a legal review – is often lower-risk from an advertising compliance standpoint (AHPRA, TGA).

How long does it take to see results?
Traditional ongoing SEO typically shows measurable movement within three to six months.
AI is slightly slower and less predictable, but the same fundamentals – structure, content accuracy and expertise – means the work compounds rather than duplicates.
